POSITION PURPOSE: Supervise, coordinate and participate in master/technical operator duties to meet needs of KSL-TV and clients.Supervise staff on best practices with job functions and duties in TV master control. Work with engineering, programming, traffic, sales, news, marketing & promotions and station management in delivering content and managing resources in the TV program chain.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Director of BO&E, Chief Engineer/TV Engineering in creating high quality "on-air" product.
  2. Supervise and coordinate the efforts of the KSL-TV Master Control Operations staff.
  3. Provide up-to-date schedules of assigned shifts for KSL-TV technical operations
  4. Provide employees with feedback on their performance.
  5. Hire new employees as needed and approved.
  6. Promote smooth operating Master Control Operations Department
    1. Create and implement departmental procedures.
    2. Implement incentive program to achieve zero operator errors.
    3. Interface with other departments to promote good relations.
    4. Continually monitor equipment and report any follow-up on any technical problems noted to TV engineering.
  7. Provide training to KSL-TV Master Control Operations staff.
    1. Train new operators on operation of equipment and daily responsibilities in Master Control, content ingest and preperation.
    2. Develop operator skills and knowledge to achieve high level of expertise in all areas of technical operations.
    3. Ensure operators are knowledgeable of applicable FCC regulations.
  8. FCC and EAS requirements and procedures, transmitter remote etc.
    1. Ensure all operators are trained in FCC requirements pertaining to Master Control and VTR.
    2. Ensure all operators are trained in EAS procedures.
  • Participate in and actively support Bonneville's EEO policy as it relates to recruitment, selection, evaluation, compensation, training, promotion and termination.  Includes being knowledgeable and conversant with the FCC EEO Rules effective March 10, 2003, and understanding the compliance issues that safeguard the station's FCC license.  
  • Take a proactive role in supporting Bonneville's policy to prevent harassment of any kind within the workplace, at off-site places of company business and at company-sponsored social venues.
  • Assure that employees working in your department will receive annual performance appraisals.
  • Guarantee that employees will sign Conflict of Interest and Payola annually.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients. 
  • Consistently works hours required.  Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Two (2) years post high school education in communication, journalism, IS/IT, related field or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years experience in TV master control and workflow, including content preparation and encoding, FCC compliance, traffic/automation and quality control.
  • Must have strong leadership and communication skills to work with staff and clients.
  • IS/IT and engineering experience will be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
