POSITION OBJECTIVE: To be a fully contributing member of the News Department team by producing newscasts that meet the highest journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, balance, sensitivity, timeliness, are interesting and understandable. (NOTE: Management reserves the right to assign producer responsibilities on a regular and/or rotating basis depending upon the producer's proven capabilities and the company's present and future needs.  A producer may be assigned to produce any newscast.)

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree in journalism, a related field, or equivalent.
  • Three years successful experience as producer or associate producer in a broadcasting environment or equivalent.
  • Able to write, produce and edit material for a newscast that appeals to targeted audiences. A writing audition may be required.
  • Able to be creative, aggressive and energetic, reflecting maximum quality and professionalism to build audience share, with excellent judgement.
  • Self-starter capable of performing and handling stress, particularly during peak hours to meet deadlines, as the services performed have short and long-term effects on the company and viewing public.
  • Have the ability to organize, delegate and motivate other people in order to coordinate news activities from conceptualization to successful execution.
  • Have proven record of dependability and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Consistently works hours required.  Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, overnight, evenings, overtime, etc.
  • Proven ability to handle stress.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Prefer someone familiar with the ENPS and AVID Computer System and with the ability to utilize state-of-the-art television technology.
  • Prefer experience in an organization similar to KSL's and knowledge of community organizations and resources.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Assume primary responsibility for assigned newscast(s), including evaluating stories, organizing them into a cohesive sequence within a newscast, and overseeing writing, production, and timing of broadcast.

2.         Meet deadlines.

3.         Conceptualize each newscast and timely assign production elements to appropriate news, production and engineering personnel.

4.         Produce an attractive product by utilizing fresh approaches to packaging, production and content.

5.         Attend story conferences and give input to news coverage.  If that is not possible, consult with assignment desk to effectively assure needs of newscast(s).

6.         Provide guidance and input to reporter(s).

7.         Edit and write copy, headlines, teases and promos that are accurate, balanced, fair,             sensitive, interesting and understandable, and that entice the viewer to watch.

8.         Set an example of professionalism and leadership.

9.         Work compatibly with assignment editor to manage the newsroom with limited in-house supervisory, editorial, and technical support.

10.       Demonstrate technical proficiency by getting live shots on the air, effectively using the rts, 2-way radio system, feed services, etc.

11.       Conduct evaluations following newscast, assign follow up and communicate results to executive producer.

12.       Consistently works hours required.  Work assigned shifts including periodic on-call producer shifts, weekends, holidays, overnight, and overtime.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
