POSITION OBJECTIVE: The TV News Associate producer position will assist reporters, producers and managers in the organization, preparation, writing and production of online reports, newspaper copy and daily TV newscasts.  Also assists as needed with other projects in the newsroom, including filling in for other producers and writers.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree in journalism or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as an associate producer in a broadcast environment or copy writer/editor for newspaper or online news organization.
  • Possess organization skills with initiative and the ability to show innovation in problem solving.
  • Proven ability to work rapidly under deadline pressure, enabling news employees and personnel from other departments to meet their deadlines.
  • Capable of handling many production details and making decisions with a limited amount of supervision.
  • Willing to work odd hours, weekends and holidays.  Ability to be flexible enough to work on unscheduled assignments.
  • Willing to take an in-house writing audition under an assigned deadline demonstrating accuracy, fairness, good grammar and spelling.
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients. 
  • Consistently works hours required.  Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Coordinate newscast rundown with producer and keep informed on stories being covered for use in the newscast.  Work as assigned by manager to fulfill the needs of the internet and newspaper.
  2. Write and rewrite news copy, wire copy, feed material, newsbreaks, commercial teases, etc. at the manager's direction while chasing down (factual or production) with any other information the manager needs.
  3. Coordinate with crews in the field and assist them with stories for the newscast.  This may include writing stories from tape shot without a reporter, taking script dictation via telephone, etc.
  4. Watch and log incoming video interviews for use by all news entities.
  5. Train to function as a broadcast news producer.
  6. Acts as news producer in the absence of the regular producer. This may include sick or vacation fill-in, or regularly scheduled holiday producer shifts.
  7. Personal growth and development.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Prefer a broad background in all aspects of news production.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.

Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
